BUKIT BROWN WALKING TOUR
Sun, 3rd Aug 2025
8.30am to 12pm

Step into the stories of old Singapore on a guided walk through Bukit Brown Cemetery – a place steeped in history, rich in culture, and surprisingly peaceful. Far from spooky, Bukit Brown has become a favourite weekend escape for joggers, dog walkers, cyclists and history lovers alike.

Although it may look like an ancient graveyard, Bukit Brown isn’t as old as it seems – the last burial took place in 1973. Yet, scattered across its hills and knolls lie tales reaching back to the 1850s, waiting to be rediscovered.

Join us for a unique tour where we’ll uncover forgotten stories of Singapore’s pioneers – from tycoons who built empires to paupers who died with little more than their names. Hear the remarkable true tale of how great fortunes were made – and lost – and learn about the mysterious case of Low Nong Nong, whose sad and little-known fate sheds light on life in a very different era.

We’ll visit Paupers’ Hill, where the very poor found their final resting place, and explore how the hopes, struggles and sacrifices of those buried here helped shape the Singapore we know today. You’ll gain a deeper appreciation for the lives and legacies of both the famous and the forgotten.

All this, while enjoying the rustic charm and tranquil beauty of one of Singapore’s most meaningful green spaces.
