Join me on Sunday, July 23rd, 2023, from 9am to 11:30am, as we embark on a fascinating journey through the history of Singapore’s renowned Orchard Road.
Did you know that Orchard Road was once just like any other area in Singapore, primarily dedicated to agriculture? Fields of gambier and nutmeg filled the landscape, but the road’s transformation began at the turn of the century.
Thanks to the influence of the local colonial community and Peranakans, Orchard Road started its glamorous ascent to become a prestigious and upscale destination by the 1950s.
Today, Orchard Road shines like a sparkling jewel in the night, captivating tourists from all over the world. While most guides focus on its beauty, I, your ole Uncle Chris, will take you on a journey beyond the surface.
From its humble beginnings to the vibrant and, dare I say, drug-laden eras of the 1960s and 70s, we’ll delve into the complete story of Orchard Road. Prepare to be enchanted as we explore its evolution into a shopping paradise and its glitzy nightlife.
Of course, every great story deserves a happy ending, and we won’t disappoint! We’ll conclude our tour with heart warming tales that will make you fall in love with Orchard Road all over again.
Our final stop will be the former car showrooms near Dhoby Ghaut, where the affluent once purchased horses and carriages before the era of motor cars.
Join me at 9am on July 23rd at Orchard Rendezvous Hotel, 1 Tanglin Road, Singapore 247905, to begin this incredible journey through the captivating history of Orchard Road.
Limited spots are available, so don’t miss out on this unforgettable experience!
