Once upon a time, “Punggol” was the name of that enchanting, secluded path that led to a seafood haven. For most of the baby boomer generation, “Punggol” was synonymous with one thing – SEAFOOD!
No one spared a thought for its history, heritage, or culture. From traditional attap huts to “sar lee chu” (zinc-roofed houses), and now the contemporary Digital Punggol, we’ve nearly forgotten that not so long ago, Punggol was a rustic village where pigs, poultry, and vegetables thrived.
The intriguing “Matilda House” was often overlooked, and there were colonial houses, abandoned and faded into obscurity. Join us, and let’s take a nostalgic journey to rediscover the long-lost idyllic place we called “Punggol.”
Meet us at Punggol MRT station at 9am on the 11th of Nov 2023, a delightful Saturday morning. We’ll decide if we’ll venture to Coney Island after Uncle Chris has meticulously researched and explored it. And, needless to say, there’s no need to mention that Punggol has evolved into a contemporary riverfront digital community.
