Tuck away in a little corner of Singapore, this small little bunker just off Seah Im Road was once an undiscovered treasure. Explorers, (amateur or otherwise) turned it into a mini-star attraction at the height of Covid-19.

Today, the route leading to it is no longer a secret. I invite you to join me on this little excursion – which will also take us to the once-abandoned Keppel Hill Reservoir. Like Seah Im Bunker, Keppel Hill Reservoir is not exactly an abandoned treasure anymore.

The path (or rather paths – there are a few paths leading to it) is almost well-visited on weekends. The Japanese Tomb of Ekasa Komoto is just nearby. Like the bunker and the reservoir, it is also one of the most photographed structures right-smack in the middle of the jungle. The truth is this – in reality, there are still lots of abandoned structures, (monuments or otherwise) in Singapore.

Most of them are off-limit to the public. Some are military training areas, and some are simply closed to the public for safety’s sake. Battle relics are all over Singapore – mostly in the 1% forest/jungle that we still have. Yes, we have only 1% of forest/jungle left. It was 99% jungle when Stamford Raffles landed in 1819.

Come with me, and feel this “jungle” before the authorities turn it into another “hillside condominium overlooking the harbour” project. Look what is happening to Clementi & Dover forests.
