SINGAPORE CITY TOUR: From Shore To Skyline
Sat, 20th Dec 2025
9am to 11.30am

Imagine walking across what was once the sea – an entire tour done on ground that didn’t even exist a century ago. Surreal as it sounds, this journey is 90% over reclaimed land, where the waves once lapped against the shores of old Singapore.

Join your ole Uncle Chris on this rare and fascinating exploration through time and tide. Together, we’ll trace Singapore’s transformation from the early 1800s to the vibrant cityscape of 2025. Along the way, you’ll not only see the sights – you’ll touch and feel the very history that built this island nation.

We’ll begin at a place that no longer exists – Scandal Point. Once a small hill (or knoll, to be precise), it was demolished long ago, its remains used as landfill to create the very ground beneath our feet. From there, we’ll reimagine the site of the former Satay Club, a place that once buzzed with smoky grills and simple pleasures.

Then we’ll journey to the heart of the real Singapore City, where modern Singapore officially began on 6 February 1819. Of course, the story didn’t start there – the Orang Laut and Malay communities were already here long before Sir Stamford Raffles and William Farquhar set foot on these shores. Yet it was their arrival that propelled Singapore onto the world stage, transforming it into the thriving port and metropolis we know today.

The tour ends at Telok Ayer Street, a site steeped in history – the very place where countless forefathers once arrived, many with nothing but determination and dreams. Here, we’ll reflect on how far Singapore has come, and how the spirit of resilience still runs deep in her people.

Meeting Point: Meet me at Toast Box (ground floor) at The Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay at 9am, Saturday, 20th December 2025.

The nearest MRT stations are Esplanade or City Hall (via CityLink Mall).

This is not just a city tour – it’s a walk through water, memory, and history. Come and see Singapore from a perspective few ever get to experience.
