Contrary to what you might expect, this is no racy tale; it’s a mesmerizing account of a forgotten era. A time when Japanese brothels dotted the streets, adding an exotic touch to Singapore’s landscape.

Embark on an adventure as we delve into the lives of these courageous women, who journeyed from Amakusa, Japan, seeking a new life in the Lion City. We’ll uncover hidden stories as we wander through the historic Bencoolen Street and the Middle Road area, where the echoes of their presence still whisper through the alleys.

Not only will we discover the world of Karayuki-san, but we’ll also encounter the Bugis community. Though their paths diverged, they once lived side by side, engaged in distinct trades that shaped Singapore’s history.

Our meeting point is at Bras Basah MRT (Exit D/E, towards Waterloo Street – street level) on Thurs, 7th Sept at 9am. From there, we’ll embark on a journey through time, concluding at the heart of the former Japanese Red-Light District.
