MANDAI T15: WALK ON THE WILD SIDE!
Tues, 23rd Dec 2025
8.30am to 11.30am

Welcome to the northern edge of Singapore’s great green lung – the Central Catchment Nature Reserve, home to the Mandai T15 Trail.

We meet on Tuesday, 23rd Dec 2025, at 8.30am, outside Springleaf MRT Station (Exit 2, street level). This trek offers a refreshing slice of nature and tranquillity, far from the bustle of the city. The T15 trail is an easy, scenic 4.5km route – a semi-forest path surrounded by lush greenery and birdsong. While the terrain is gentle, it’s important to note that we’ll be sharing the trail with our cyclist friends, so a bit of awareness and care go a long way. Bring along your insect repellent, good walking shoes, and most importantly, an adventurous spirit – because every trek holds its own surprises!

The Mandai T15 Trail lies within the Central Catchment Nature Reserve, Singapore’s largest protected rainforest area, spanning over 2,000 hectares – almost five times the size of the Botanic Gardens. It is the beating heart of our island’s natural ecosystem, connecting a network of reservoirs – MacRitchie, Upper Seletar, Upper Peirce and Lower Peirce – that together safeguard Singapore’s water and biodiversity. Established during the British colonial period as a key water catchment area, it later evolved into a vital ecological refuge as urban development grew around it.

What makes this reserve truly remarkable is that it shelters one of the last remnants of primary rainforest in Singapore – the same ancient forest that once covered much of the island before modern times. Within its boundaries live more than 500 species of animals and 1,000 species of flowering plants, including the shy Sunda pangolin, long-tailed macaques, flying lemurs, and the spectacular banded woodpecker. The air here feels cooler, purer, and somehow older – as if you’ve stepped back into a time when Singapore was still wild and untamed.

This is not just a walk in the woods – it’s a journey through one of Singapore’s most treasured natural landscapes. So come join your ole Uncle Chris for a peaceful morning adventure through Mandai’s green heart. Together, we’ll experience the quiet side of Singapore few ever get to see.
