MOUNT PLEASANT & KOPI SUA WALKING TOUR
15th Oct 2023
9am to 12pm

The history at Mount Pleasant is not very well documented. Few people use this road. Perhaps this is part of the reason why it managed to earn the coveted title of an ideal “heritage” road.

There are only five “Heritage Roads” in Singapore. Mount Pleasant Road is one of them. It takes a lot to earn that “heritage” label. We have lost most of our heritage roads to developments. Anyone in a hurry along this road will be able to tell you that Mount Pleasant Road is a scenic road to walk or drive on. But the history of this road is seldom mentioned.

While the road may seem rustic with an old-world charm, in reality, fierce battles were once fought here during World War 2. The Black & White Mansions here are stately reminders of the once mighty British Empire. One building, at 153 Mount Pleasant Road stands out proudly as the Senior Police Officers’ Mess (SPOM).

It is not difficult to imagine that Mount Pleasant Road will in due time become a regular walking tour itinerary from Mount Pleasant MRT station to the future Bukit Brown MRT station. The air is crisp, and the scenery soothing to the eye… The short walk to Kopi Sua is but a bonus.

We meet at Marymount MRT at 9am, on Sunday, 15th October 2023. From there, we’ll take a bus to the junction of Mount Pleasant Road and Thomson Road where the tour begins. This tour will end at the bus stop in front of Fun’s Florist along Thomson Road, possibly about 11.30am, maybe 12pm.
