Join us for a morning stroll through one of Singapore’s most charming streets – Neil Road.
We’ll meet at Maxwell MRT Station (Exit 2, street level). Once you step out, you’ll see the striking Buddha Tooth Relic Temple across the road – the perfect landmark to start our walk.
From there, we’ll wander down Neil Road, a stretch that may not be long, but is packed with stories. Once nothing more than a jungle track, this road has transformed into an upmarket conservation area, famed for its Peranakan past and beautiful shophouses.
Today, Neil Road and the nearby Blair Plains are among Singapore’s most sought-after heritage enclaves.
Of course, we cannot talk about Neil Road without touching on its Peranakan heritage. While many Peranakan families have long moved away, their legacy still lingers in the architecture, colours, and cultural history left behind.
You’ll get to see where the old world meets the new, as tradition blends seamlessly with modern lifestyles.
But there’s more. Few know about the man the road was named after – Colonel James Neil. His story connects back to Fort Canning, and we’ll uncover how his name ended up etched into Singapore’s history.
As we make our way down the street, you’ll see layers of history unfold: from colonial beginnings to Peranakan elegance, and finally to the cosmopolitan vibe of today.
And what better way to end our walk than with something sweet? Our tour concludes in front of Ji Xiang Ang Ku Kueh, home to some of Singapore’s most beloved traditional snacks. Perfect for “tar pau” (takeaway) to share with family or treat yourself after the walk.
So, come along for a relaxed morning, a little history, and perhaps a box of ang ku kueh to round things off.
