Have you ever wondered what really makes the National University of Singapore (NUS) so iconic? While I may not be a current student – my own university days are long behind me, and I saw my two daughters through NUS in the early 2000s – I have a passion for its rich history.
This isn’t a lecture on today’s syllabus. Instead, it’s a journey through time. We’ll explore how NUS evolved, from its humble beginnings to the world-class institution it is today. We’ll uncover the reasons behind its global appeal and discuss the sheer hard work it takes to secure a place here.
Unlike commercial tour groups, we’re committed to being respectful visitors. We won’t be intruding on the student transport system or crowding their canteens. Our trail is a scenic walk, focusing on architecture, history, and the little-known stories that give this campus its unique character.
We’ll start at Clementi MRT and finish our exploration at the magnificent Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum. I highly recommend visiting the museum after our tour to see its famous dinosaur skeletons – an acquisition that sparked much conversation!
Join me for a morning of discovery. Let’s explore the legacy of one of Singapore’s greatest institutions together.
