Hidden in a quiet corner of Singapore lies the Seah Im Bunker, a relic from another time. Once an undiscovered secret tucked away just off Seah Im Road, it was brought into the spotlight during the pandemic, when curious explorers turned it into an unlikely local attraction.
Today, the route to the bunker is well-known – but its mystery and charm remain.
Join me on this offbeat morning trek as we uncover some of Singapore’s best-kept historic sites, starting with the Seah Im Bunker before heading deep into the forest to explore the Keppel Hill Reservoir.
Once forgotten and left off the maps, the reservoir was rediscovered only a few years ago. Despite its newfound popularity, it still feels like a hidden oasis in the middle of the city, surrounded by lush greenery and quiet trails.
Nearby stands another poignant landmark – the Japanese Tomb of Ekasa Komoto, a much-photographed site that adds a reflective moment to our journey. Together, these locations offer a rare glimpse into the island’s layered history – one of war, wilderness and rediscovery.
Singapore may appear to be a city of steel and glass today, but traces of its wilder past still survive. From bunkers to forgotten reservoirs, relics of the past lie scattered in the last patches of forest – remnants of the days when 99% of Singapore was jungle. Today, less than 1% remains.
This trek is more than a walk through nature – it is a step back in time, before modern developments reshape what little “jungle” we have left. Come and experience these remarkable sites before they fade into memory, replaced by yet another hillside condominium with a view of the harbour.
